On the Real Real

May 16, 2019

I really don’t need to preface this as many of you already know, but The Real Real is hands-down my favorite place to shop. So much so, that I’ve been asked several times on help navigating the site. Without further ado, a few thoughts and words following my video on my most recent seasonal haul.

Having a super curious thought-process has to be the driving force of a successful time on The Real Real (or any grab bag of uncurated goods). The innate urge to probe the search engine with your imagination will guide you through a welcomed rabbit-hole that eventually leads to a discovery. That is the high of shopping on this site. Aside from the trendy conversations of consumerism, sustainability, better choices, ya-dee-yah that consignment shopping is great for, it just gives you the room to explore your style without a filter. Because there is none. You literally have to create your own to find what you love.

With that, I know it’s still a daunting ride.

And unless it’s a muscle you’ve practiced in the past through thrift shops or eBay searching, it’s only one that you can continue to play around with until suddenly, it clicks. The process is almost so intuitively based that it’s difficult to write out in actualized actions, but I promise over time, not instantly (let’s get over the whole, “I want to instantly obtain skill sets”, please?), you’ll be able to train your eye to curate for yourself. But till then, just keep playing. Shopping online through these unfiltered spaces is a great way to practice what you want and not what companies merchandise for you to buy.

Dries van Noten is one of my favorite searches as it’s one of the only houses that have stayed so true to its core identity and never wavered to the trends of society. I appreciate that and I want to collect it.

As for the latter, I’ve been needing a beautiful, long trench to throw over in these forgiving, chilly LA spring evenings. So the rabbit hole I went down was literally going through every single page of knee-length coats (filtered with my size of course so it’s less overwhelming), until I stumbled on this jacket.

Wishing you guys the best of luck through all your searches! Since I was spoiled by The Real Real, I am stocked for all of spring and summer and can safely share my (still) Obsessions. But I can’t link it, and nor would I want to. But here are a few things that are on my radar and maybe I’d might the bullet if one of you guys don’t buy it.

*edit:

I feel as though I need to illustrate my filter, but when I look at brands I like: Celine, Prada, Dries Van Noten… there’s obviously a lot to look at. I can’t stress enough how important the filter tool is. IT IS YOUR FRIEND. This is what my page looks like when I’m looking at Celine. Sorted from ‘low to high’, filtered my shoe size AND clothing size, so I can see everything that would possibly fit me in one swoop.

Night Owl

May 27, 2018

Hello frends – how have you all been? It’s been a minute since I’ve updated. Funny enough, I had a comment in Ask Rachel asking why I don’t update as much given this new platform. That’s a great question and maybe an appropriate time to answer really, what my day to day looks like.

All my life I’ve been a perpetual night owl – ever since college when my horrible procrastination habits pushed me to last-minute, 4am study cramming. Something about the world’s slumber pushed me into a zone of my own – truly, a time I can concentrate without the distraction of social updates, text messages, and fomo. This still applies to my adult life.

With that in mind, I can introduce to you the fact that Weston is a morning person, a light sleeper, and in bed by 10:30pm most nights. This has put a damper on the balance of my work and personal life, because I can’t, for the life of me, concentrate during the day. Sure, email and correspondence are easy, but editing… not so much. Emails flurry in by the hour most days and working lonesome is a lot to keep up on such back-and-forth. It’s not an excuse, rather, letting you know what first world struggles I deal with in the face of self-balance.

But all in all, living together has been a positive experience and definitely brought us closer. But these minute adjustments have taken me away from the grunt work I perpetually put aside. How do you guys stay motivated? Or even get through the endless distractions the daytime throws at you? WOULD LOVE SOME TIPS.

Voodoo Nights

December 18, 2017

I’ve been really drawn to a stranger romantic, dominatrix aesthetic lately. Then one day, I coerced Kenealy to come over and rummage around my backyard between renovations to play around on camera.

This month, as you might have figured already, I’m doing #31daysofthatschic. Daily vlog uploads, and in the midst of being far to engulfed in video editing programs, I wanted to have a creative refresh working with photos again, for a second.

Feeling super inspired and creative lately, need more energy and resources to channel it. Gonna be asking for help soon in the new year, so be on the look out for a job opportunity.

Waiting For Fall

September 7, 2017

It’s been heatwave after heatwave and all I want to do with wear pretty Fall clothes in a mistressly manner.

Instead, I find myself swimming in beads of sweat and falling into the deep hole of global warming articles that turns into Trump discussions. To which I remind myself that my sanity is most important and know there is a mental break and an ice cold La Croix waiting for me in the yard.

Confessions

July 27, 2017

I have a guilty confession: one of the things you see in these picture is $35 and the other is $1200.

Have you guessed? You might know I’m fairly pro slow-fashion; meaning, I encourage consignment shopping, investment pieces, and dabbling into thrift stores. However, sometimes I make exceptions, but never by way of temptation. Discovering this dress was through working closely with the Who What Wear team who happen to also make clothes at Target. And they strongly encouraged me to accept a gift, and I got this dress. A $35 dress that might be one of my favorite summer aquirements. So easy to wear, and the belt doubles as a hair accessory.

So while I feel some guilt to be elated over a quick, easy purchase, I find that this dress has been making its way into weekly if not daily wear. Which doesn’t go too far beyond my morals, right?

Oh, andddddd the $1200 is the coffee table. My first apartment splurge and I haven’t looked back. Guess I’ll always be in limbo of the extreme highs and lows.

With The Girls

June 21, 2017

While my IG post was sponsored, this post is not. Hanging out with a couple of best friends all dressed alike makes for head turning fun and really good content. Especially when my girl Alex Kenealy is behind the camera.

Thanks Avec les Filles for dressing us for what could look like a pending album cover release. I’m obviously Beyonce,  Jenny is Kelly, and Olivia os Michelle (but secretly Solange I guess). And after this whole ordeal, we spent the rest of the day cuddling over gin cocktails. Because as simple as cuddling is actually super, super healing, did you know? Now you do.

Baby Blues

December 25, 2016

Enjoying the last bit of sunshine and random 90 weather outburst before heading to NYFW. I HATE NYFW IN THE WINTER, BUT I’M DOING IT BECAUSE MY BEST FRIENDS AND I GOT A PENTHOUSE IN TIME SQUARE. I’m not being paid (nor was I asked) to blog about this, but I wrote about my last trip to February NYFW on Simon.com. It’s pretty amusing and took me half a day to write. You need to read it so I feel better about spending the time to write it since all they wanted was a wish list of things I like. My story is better.

Paying homage to my daily outfit. I guess I’m excited to experiment with kooky outfits outside of my Levi’s + sneakers + blank top uniform.

My 2017 attitude is going to Bella Hadid shading her ex-boo The Weeknd on a runway because I had an epiphany

I don’t have many more years to be in my twenties, and the opportunity comes once in a lifetime. So, I better fucking feel it because if I don’t, it’s gone. What do I do? I get myself in a sequined mini leopard dress and indulge. All this training will pay off as I’m set to be a cougar one day.

Last April

March 31, 2016

This whole YouTube thing has taken up so much of my time that blogging hasn’t been on my radar. That doesn’t mean I don’t have a plethora of photos and outfit documentation to share. As I was editing this, I actually realized that this was taken a year ago. Last year. This boggles me especially because, 1. whoa that went by really fast 2. I still wear the same things. Both just mildly-alarming. The past couple years I’ve finally stopped caring about wearing these cool elaborate outfits and have settled into easy, expensive-ass pieces that ain’t no one-trick pony.
