Hi Rach!! Night owl here and reading ur Q&As.
How did you and Wes met? Iโ€™m at my late 20s and feeling the pressure/urge and reluctance to social and meet new boys. Kinda clueless now for love life. Any tips/advise?
Ps: Try re creating this blocked concentrated late night environment during daylight. Maybe the feeling of steel time makes you high on creativity so maybe getting into a mood would help. Xx
Admin Reply by: Rachel
Hello fellow night owl! Wow that's actually a really good idea. I'll have to try that one of these days.

Wes and I met through mutual friends and were distant friends for a few years before we started dating. In some way, we were lucky enough to skip the era of dating apps. But man, I have noooo idea! I'm so out of touch. It seems like my friends who are in their late 20s and single rn have stopped focusing on their singleness and have been making impressive, personal strides in their spirituality and career. The feeling of 'expiring' as a woman can be ever pressing, but I think can be conquered within. I really do personally believe that when someone is truly ready to meet someone (and not for the sake of companionship), the energy opens up and love finds its way. ALSO, men have their single-sniffers out. ITS WILD. ESP IN LA. It's like women project horomones. YALL IVE SEEN IT WITH MY OWN TWO EYES.

hey rachel! wondering if you ever hired an assistant? i think you mentioned it in one post or video, but i can't remember. are you still looking to expand? if you have hired an assistant, what's been his/her main tasks?
Admin Reply by: Rachel
I did!!! she has been amazing and honestly the best help I've had. we got along really well but when an offer for a full-time position fell into her lap, I encouraged her to take it because it would be an amazing experience for her to gain insight into molding her future freelance career.

I would be interested in another assistant again, but man, the internet can be so cruel. Publishing a post asking for paid-help, then having comments not only invalidate me as a creative but also paint my character as entitled and unnecessary, fill me with enough doubt and negativity to outweigh the enthusiasm that found my inbox. Is making a person feel horrible about themselves a successful goal? Does that make you sleep at night? Honestly, I'm really fucking curious how people can be so spiteful while filling in the blanks of someone else's life.

SORRY, end rant. I'm clearly still working out some of my internal battles with byproduct of putting one's self online hahaha.

To answer your question, she helped me a lot with managing projects, keeping my files organized, and editing photos. But it took 1-2 months to get to know each other and how we work.. especially since I only saw her once a week, that process took a while. We got into a groove the last month we were together. She was really helpful when I was consulting for Glossier and didn't have the bandwidth to plan/produce shoots, which she would do then help me with some content. Ultimately she helped me organize and started all my rough drafts. She was amaaazzzzing and always reminded me and told me that she would help with any little thing if it made time management easier for me. If you're reading this Brigitte, hi.

Hi Rachel,

I was inspired by your bujo video at first, which I think it is the best tutorial I have seen on the YT. And then I started to look some of your other very inspirational videos and I felt resonant with your individuality and attitude to life/fashion. I assume it always needs some courage to be a freelancer, may I ask what makes you decide to be a freelancer? What is the biggest challenge/obstacle you have met so far?

Only the best,

Admin Reply by: Rachel
HI Li ~ aw thank you. I'm so happy you enjoy my work! I became a freelancer because I worked in the industry for a bit before I started YT full time. Working for myself can be challenging because you never know when the next project is coming in. Since I have a more 'personal' brand, I also have to be mindful of the projects I take on... and I say 'no' to a lot of projects and opportunities. But the other side of freelance, I do that still because I know I'm good at what I do, and I might not always have the avenue to push it myself on my own platform (YT, blog), but I can translate what I know for another brand. It's complicated. I'm always hustling... it ever stops. Sorry, it's a pretty vague answer for a vague question. I hope it gave a bit on insight?

Hey Rachel!

I'm just starting to get into jewelry pieces. I'm looking for minimalist-ish quality pieces that won't break the bank account. Would you mind recommending your go-to jewelry shops?
Admin Reply by: Rachel
I like the DTLA jewelry districts. It is pricey because you're buying real gold, but it's an investment that is definitely worth the money and will never go bad on you! x If you don't live in LA, look up wholesale jewelry marts around you ๐Ÿ™‚

hi raychel! i'm always so stoked when i see a new blog post or video from you. do you find that a blog post or a video takes longer? curious as to why you don't publish blog posts more often (assuming bc it's a shit ton of work?!). but just know your followers looooove them and check for them every day. ๐Ÿ™‚
Admin Reply by: Rachel
Mostly because I dislike writing and never know what to say. But then editing photos, making sure they're resized and decompressed, figuring if GIFs and stuff would look good, designing out the post... all takes time. Edit a video is even more work as you can imagine! I work alone... on top of keeping up with a heavy inbox flow and press events during the day, I get burnt by the time I'm on my computer :((((((((

Hey darling - I have a few questions for you. First, will you be doing #30daysofthatschic this summer? Your summer vlogs are some of my favorites, I actually replay them more than would be considered normal I think. The second is advice. I fall into the habit of being self-conscious sometimes, and it envelopes me. I start applying it to all avenues of life - love, career, friendship, etc. Does this ever happen to you? How do you stay on top of your self-confidence? Thanks for being a constant inspiration to me -- Love always. xx
Admin Reply by: Rachel
I ran a Twitter poll based off this question, and the results skewed that way. So yeah, probably. Oh no, that's never a good feeling. Of course it happens to me; I think everyone feels a sense of self-doubt every once in a while. Everytime I'm in that rut, I sort of remind myself that I'm my own human and there's no one else like me. We are all our own individual and I disconnect and rediscover what makes me happy ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป

Hi Rachel!

I was wondering if you have any tips on finding personal style?
Admin Reply by: Rachel
I would try to steer away from things that are curated (clothing stores, websites, etc) and go to a thrift store and pull things that catch your eyes, then curate those pieces from there. But you know, it's hard. I'm still exploring what I like and it forever changes. I don't think I will ever have a definitive grasp on what my personal style is, and that's okay. That's just my style ๐Ÿ˜‰

Admin Reply by: Rachel
I haven't! So hard to answer that because I think it's completely personal and up to whatever you want? I need physical intimacy and personally, don't think I could open up if the variables weren't in that favor. Now, if Weston suddenly had to move, I truly have no idea how that will pan out and would be unfair of me to make some declaration on that - love is too finicky and moody for me. It's why I don't have tattoos haha

Ayooo Raych!

I absolutely love your vibe and I often rewatch your videos to relax...a form of artful ASMR. I really loved your videos of Paris, especially the one of you spending time alone there. I'll be alone in Paris for three days this summer. Any advice on some places to people watch, meander, sketch, and take photos? Keep creating and keep being dreamy. Much love from NYC <3
Admin Reply by: Rachel
Paris is a lovely city to be alone in. There's strangely no pressure or looks for being at a cafe alone. Go to any outdoor boulangeries that you'll find on any given corner, order your fave day drink, and do exactly what you envision. Enjoy and live in the moment! x

Hi gal!! At a stage in my life where I'm unsure if I should create a blog because 1. is it going to be worth it????????? 2. are people going to read it? 3. what can I put on the table that isn't already there?

Really into fashion and would love to incorporate my belief in looking good w/o necessarily sacrificing too much $$$ + looking at putting myself out there as a Filipina lady who's moved to Australia at the age of 8. Would love to see more of what speaks to my identity on social media! But I figured, why wait if I can just do it myself and inspire those who struggle to relate to others because their identity is rarely exposed

1. Why wouldn't your *unique* perspective be worth sharing?? or even better, worth documenting for yourself?
2. who the fuck cares, if they do, that's awesome! don't hold yourself to that expectation. creation should be for the creator and the creator only. the audience is a pleasant byproduct.
3. IDK, what is something you haven't seen that you want to see? it sounds like you have a unique story to tell and a way you seem you want to share it. So go for it! There's nothing that's majorly investing about starting a blog, which is why they're so awesome to make ๐Ÿ™‚

GOOD LUCK! We'll be looking out x

Hey Raych! You seem very independent and also like a go-getter, but you still have time to be in a relationship. I know that is do-able but as someone in a similar situation I was curious: before you and Wes lived together, how often did you two see each other a week? How often are you together now whilst living together?
I am always fascinated by relationship dynamics!
Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚
Admin Reply by: Rachel
I know it sounds counter intuitive, but being independent in a relationship, I think, is key. Wes and I really look to each other as partners in life and are each other's best friends! Before living together, we still spent at least 2-3 nights together, but now we're together, we hang out a lot more and do things together a lot more, which is really really nice. But we're still trying to find a balance because we're almost too close haha.

Hi Rachel,

Love your eye for the creative. Anyway, I wanted to ask how you take care of your hair after a workout. I've recently picked up running again and my biggest question is how I can take care of my hair. Naturally, my hair gets a little sweaty after a run, but I don't feel comfortable having to wash it with shampoo everyday because I know that it'll dry my hair out. However, I also don't want to keep my hair sweaty because I know that it's just as bad as over-shampooing. Is there a happy medium that you would recommend? Or, is it acceptable to shampoo and condition my hair everyday due to the sweat?

Thank you and much love,
Admin Reply by: Rachel
I've read once that BO doesn't happen because of sweat, but because our armpits are dark and that's how we smell. I know it's gross, but I air out my head and go about my day after without shampooing for the same reasons you're concerned about. I don't find my hair getting oily after, just wet, so that's how I deal with it. And the day I can't stand how oily my hair is, I wear it in a tight pony all day as an attempt to further train my hair to not produce as much oil. I hope that helps? x

a year ago, i was cheated on by my 3 year boyfriend with a friend of mine whom i trusted. it has now been a year since it all happened and all i am is bitter and jealous over things that she has that i clearly dont (nice body, i got no curves, im basically a twig). my comparing myself to her has come to a point where i literally obssess over her everything. i know you might think its stupid but i still trust my boyfriend because i know him as the person as he is and i believe he made a mistake. but sometimes, i cant help but think that he still fantasizes about her because afterall, i caught him redhanded. it wasnt him who confessed. nowadays when she looks at me she acts as though she is superior to me because she "got my man" and i feel both infuriated and pathetic at the same time. i really try my best every day not to be a bitter and hateful person, but on some days, i feel like thats all that i am. how can i regain my confidence and be more productive with my life?

sorry for bringing up such a heavy topic - no pressure, i just wanted to reach out to you because you always inspire me to become a more optimistic and organised person in life!

love you raych x
Admin Reply by: Rachel
Hi Shay! I'm so sorry you are going through this. Infidelity is hard, and every case and relationship is different to gauge how things should move forward. But regardless, should you guys decide to work on this, it is his humble responsibility to give you the tools that you can trust him again and feel secure in your relationship. It's also very important to remember that your value as an individual isn't determined by someone else's actions. You are your own unique woman and so special beyond comparison that is not dependent on qualities any girl has or lack. As difficult as it is, you will only start healing when you can make a concentrated effort to focus on yourself rather than others. I hope that helps and best of your healing journey x

Hi Rachel ๐Ÿ™‚

I am going on a trip with my friends in about a week, and will have to rot in a 20hour flight there and back. I however have a very important event coming up literally a day after my arrival and I am worried that my skin will shrivel up like a raisin and break out due to the long flight (my skin breaks out especially when dry during flights). Do you have any tips or advice? Is there anything specific you do in flights to keep moisturised and break out-free?
Admin Reply by: Rachel
how fun! girl you gotta pack on lots of face masks, and don't be afraid to use more than one during that long ass flight. i'd also carry a ziplock with soaked cotton pads of your favorite toner to keep balancing your skin's PH then slapping on some oil or a face mask to keep your skin hydrated. also, drink a LOT a lot of water and avoid the teas and coffee x

There's really no medium for me, I genuinely enjoy taking photos and sometimes it's the experience of the connection I'm having with the subject and my action of capturing how I feel that makes photography so fun. But also, resist the urge to review photos right after you take it. Capture, put your device down, and continue on with your life. Alsoooo I never look back and wish I took less photos โค๏ธโค๏ธ

Admin Reply by: Rachel
Love that you're thinking about this at such a young age! My first reason is that it's never as well made as designer pieces and that if I had $100 to spend on clothes a season, I would rather put that money towards something that will hold its value to resell and also withstand the test of wear. But yeah, you vote with your dollars and it's hard to support fast fashion brands that are usually trend driven and go out of style. Always nice to explain where you come from without making people feel like they're being shamed for their choices. No one is a perfect consumer and you happen to wear lots of second-hand as well ๐Ÿ™‚

IDK, I've met a lot of people through IG and blogging, but I've also been doing this for so long that it's hard to have that fresh perspective on what it was like before. Honestly, going to events helps a lot. But I agree, find friends with the same vibe on IG! Follow each other, meet up, talk about things. Everyone is craving openness the same as you are but everyone is too afraid to be the first one to do it - be the first one to approach.

I can't say I would have the smarter decision for this, I'd move somewhere nicer (but I also work from home and it's v important to me to splurge on something that feels comfortable for me and to work from). Admin Reply by: Rachel
I feel as though a lot of influencers don't have much sensitivity to conscious efforts and footprint, so... it's not my battle haha. But yeah, you're right, it's really hard to get away from it.

I think it's really important to be okay knowing you won't be a perfect conscious consumer, but you can be a smart one. Often times we feel like if we're going to label our choices, we have to follow-through perfectly, and I don't see that as fair. We can make incremental decisions that turn into habits rather than giving up on an idea that seems too hard to manage.

Admin Reply by: Rachel
It's unfortunate that these things keep happening. But also knowing that these teams are huge and ginormous - I have a great relationship with the PR team in NY... that's like 5 people out of probably 100+ in just PR. I always leave room for error with these companies because sometimes it is the mistake of just one person. Not an excuse, but I've made mistakes too in huge corporate settings, and it's hard to finesse each decision. I do know they are constantly hiring extra talent to oversee mistakes and hopefully prevent more like these.

Hey Racheal! I've started blogging, and by started I mean just taking pictures, and I wanted to know the best way to create my website. I've tried Wix and Squarespace, but they haven't given me my creative push I need. I need total freedom like you have on your blog site. Should I just hire a Website Developer, or become one lol, or do you know any site that'll give me my creative freedom, if that makes sense. Thanks! xoxox
Admin Reply by: Rachel
I've seen some pretty rad things on Wix. What I did with my site was make a wireframe of how I wanted the site to feel and navigate (without any design implemented, purely a blueprint) and worked around that. I worked with a developer because I didn't have the time to figure it all out on my own, but I used to code my own sites! It really helps to design it out first and then put it together and knowing what freedom you need and where. I hope that helps? x

Hi Rachel! Gonna ask you for some relationship advice. How do you work out your insecurities? Not only are you a massive fashion inspiration, but def a highlighting shining star and role model to look up to for lifestyle and pure radiant positive energy, which is why I wonder and want to know how you go about working out insecurities โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’•โœจ
Admin Reply by: Rachel
Hi sweetie, aw you're so sweet. Thank you and thanks for asking this question that I think it's a difficult road to navigate on our own. The best thing for security in a relationship is actually the person you're in a relationship giving it to you. You should be confident and your own person beforehand, but if your partner isn't making you feel secure and open, of course it'll leave room to second guess yourself. Often in relationships, my best advice is to be 100% open with the person and leave no rooms for secrets. If you are open, it usually fosters room and the expectancy for the other to be open as well.

I hope that helps ๐ŸŒ

Hi Kayley! I might have answered this already when I saw you, but I'll answer again so others can see! AD is mostly managing people to execute a vision you have, and should you know all the puzzle pieces and how they work, it's easier to create a well-oiled machine from it. Its important to gain inspiration from everything you do, and the process of creating comes from trial and error. just start making things that you love and collaborate with your friends, and ask for peer review! xx

yay โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธso happy to hear! I think video making is a really big bite to take and can be really intimidating. I always suggest to just do it- you're probably not gunna post your first video because you not going to love it. but it'll give you perspective on how to film and edit your videos, you almost need and initial trial run!

I'm really out of a creative degree in UK and i'm hustling my little lift away. Could you reply, or even better make a lush youtube video, about hustling please. Just how you go about it, how you feel about it, your process for making opportunities happen that don't even exist before you say they're there. I'm trying to do exactly that at the moment and would love to know your view point

I hope you're having a great January and 2018 so far. I wish you all the happiness and joy in the world, and so much love. I'm sorry for being so fan gurl, but I think it's amazing that because of the internet I can be inspired and enthused by someone like yourself towards my own life.

I really love how you said that, it definitely is a very interesting video to make. I've been wanting to do a video of those sorts for a while but trying to do it without being so wordy.....wordyy..

But to answer your question, I think I'm really good at seeing problems and coming up with solutions before anyone else does. And in that sense, I use that skill to hustle with opportunities that people haven't seen yet. I guess I'm like an opportunist by nature in some way!

hi! I made mine off of Wordpress but I used a developer for it. i say canon g7x all the way. the gopro is not comparable to sound quality which is so important to good video making. like, the canon is so good, i rarely use my DSLR to film. the gopro wouldn't be able to replace that. but i want one too, it's definitely a purchase to get once you expand more. also, i don't recommend it completely.... but i've used my phone to film underwater (totally was okay in a pool setting, home buttton stopped working in the ocean lulzz)

Admin Reply by: Rachel
aw so sorry to hear! well, i'm no expert in this stuff so take anything i say with a grain of salt and apply only what resonates with you.

1. let yourself feel everything you want to feel and know it will pass
2. you probably lost yourself for a while in this relationship, and remember that relationships should not be two-half people coming in to make a whole... rather, it should be two whole people coming together to enhance each other. find the half you've been missing and try to be a whole human. you will never need someone to complete you
3. reach out to friends, family, coworkers, yoga mat neighbor, and get your mind off it. remember what it's like to have a healthy companionship

hope that helps and hope you find a light at the end of your tunnel xx

ah this question is always so hard to answer because I wish there was some secret formula i can share. i think i got really lucky starting my blog and maintaining an image online to which is how I've kinda built everything. but i also started YT cause i didn't see anyone making anything i wanted to watch... i truly think having your own uniqueness that isn't formulated and throws people off is the best trick to do. but again, i have no idea if that's luck or totally true

dear rachel, have been watching your videos since the last year's vlogmas and you are my favorite! can't describe how connected i felt when i first watched your videos. there is a realness and something fresh about you and your content that was missing in the media. just wanted to let you know that i completely admire what you create, how you translate it to every platform and how it feels so you (genuine). i am a fashion designer and i am applying to get a place in a course really really important to me. I got to speak with the director of the course and he took a look at my portfolio and we had a conversation. he really liked my work but he said that he couldn't understand my style. so till i meet him again in the interview i have to figure it out. kind of all the questions he made got me really confused about myself. ended up having a style identity crise. do you have any advice on how to define a style? how you found your style and how you define it? i like really random stuff so i didn't know how to explain it to him. (like cรฉline, kiko mizuhara, ballet, a bit of glittler ...)
Admin Reply by: Rachel
aw thank you for the sweet words yasmin x

to make you feel better, i have an identity crisis all the time. what really helps me is really focusing - i'll make visual boards of things i like and see how it all fits, then i put together all my stuff/photos/things in my life and see how it matches and start curating from there. your style is yours, it's a matter of making it make sense to someone who isn't in your head. try looking up some podcasts (i don't know any off the top of my head) about branding!

hm, I say go at it at a passionate, leisurely pace to get your footing and voice while still maintaining an income on the side. once you start feeling confident, try treating it as a business and partner with brand that you see a right fit that you want to create content (or whatever else ideas you have!) for. it can be a slow burn, but I definitely think it's not something to jump into head first to make money.

Totally hahha, I think it's natural to have the curiosity to check in on someone. But I think it all depends on what your relationship with the person was and I think if there's a lingering wonder of how healthy these habits are, then it's probably leaning towards one end of that question.

Admin Reply by: Rachel
i feel like if you're outgrowing your friends, it usually also comes with having new things that you're interested in. sometimes it helps to go to gatherings (like yoga class, or a fashion event, or whatever) that would have people with common interests and start introducing yourself! transitions will happen naturally whether your new / old friends are in your life.

Maybe if we ask more questions, remain curious, stay humble through actions, realize we don't actually know it all, and also weigh the value in the things that motivate us, we could open room in our lives to appreciate each other more.

What do you do to make yourself feel confident when you aren't really feeling the best or you're feeling uncomfortable?
Admin Reply by: Rachel
Give myself a realllly good spa day. Then I just remind myself that I am fucking awesome and there's only one of me and I have amazing people in my life and that would only be the case if I was the best person I can be for myself and everyone else *run-on sentence*

How do you stay inspired and make a different content from a lot of the existing youtubers? You are such a breath of fresh air!
Admin Reply by: Rachel
It actually makes me more inspired to NOT make what everyone else is making. It's actually easier to narrow down what you don't want to do.

If you ever needed some time to re-discover yourself, where would you go?

Somewhere really foreign but with lots of natural escapes.

Have you ever feel fear to start a new proyect and? How to overcome fear?
Admin Reply by: Rachel
Laziness more than fear. I overcome fear when I remind myself that the reward on the other side weighs more than the fear to get there, IE: an apartment without spiders if I can just get over the fact that I am face-to-face with a spider and all I need to do... is to get the damn thing inside of the cup... walk outside... without it jumping on me... to release it.

How did you start getting into the industry and making the correct connections?๐Ÿ’™
Admin Reply by: Rachel
It helps being in a city with a thriving community of the industry you see yourself in. One friend will lead to another, and then you'll always yourself with something to do. Be nice to everyone.

Honestly, I have less of an idea now than when I first started. But thank you! I am just making things that I like right now when I find it therapeutic.

I'm doing some consulting jobs, but still mostly YouTube/influencer stuff. I'm lucky that I have one great client (Adobe) that keeps me afloat while I have my existential crisis.

I swear by the 10 step skincare girl. But also, age. Not being in your late teens and early twenties does something GREAT to your skin, then something awful, so important to use preventative skincare early on! x

Admin Reply by: Rachel
You know, I've been wanting to do a brand for a REALLY long time. I happen to sit on a lot of my ideas and projects until one day it starts to unfold. There's too much of everything: new brands, new bloggers, new shops, new consumeristic means, and right now, I am enjoying creating my own silence and hoping to find a way to channel my creativity in a way that contributes to the conversation.

When starting out on Youtube, should quantity be over quality? Sometimes making "quality" content takes a lot of time to plan, film, and edit (especially if u are doing it all on ur own). Any advice?
Admin Reply by: Rachel
As hard as it can be to make beautiful content on your own, the internet has way too much noise with not enough substance. I always enjoy consuming things from artists who make things for themselves than to please the public x

Get off the internet and do something active/in nature. WWW can be such an overwhelming space with too much inspiration or means to compare yourself to others. Best to visit the things that you enjoy with fresh eyes.
