Omg same!!!! Blogging is my humble beginning hahaha. I use an Olympus MjuII film camera and I set up a tripod with a timer for all the photos. Sometimes I'll get a stranger involved to take a polaroid of me 🙂

I mostly shoot / post film photos, which maybe gives that filtered look, but I don't have a preset filter. Maybe i'll change a few settings on vsco like brightness and shit but nah, no filter! I like snapseed and vsco!

Evening -- I hope Monday has been treating you kindly. I just wanted to say that I adore the feel of this website, your videos, and all other platforms you manage. In fact, I have been trying to find inspiration for a site I want to create (I am quite into fashion, but also very into scrapbooking/writing and wanted to reflect that on a screen). Your website is serving much inspiration and I want to thank you for that. That is all. With gratitude, Kat

Hi Rachel, I'm so excited and at the same time nervous about posting this question! I wanted to make a video since I was in middle school, and wow, it's been over ten years that I haven't achieved my dream. Finally, I got my motivation to make something about Portland, where I live after you visited the town 🙂 But now I ran into this question about creative common, which I'm not familiar. There is a song I really wanted to use for my first video in Soundcloud but not sure if I can use it by crediting them on video and linking on the description box. Can you give me some advice on how to use songs from Soundcloud or any other source w/o any problem? Thank you! Michelle

You should be fine! YouTubers just get all up in arms about using the right songs because they make their living from the adsense. And if a song is 'flagged', then they can no longer make money from YouTube on that particular video. But honestly, unless you're like getting over a million views each month, you're not really making noticeable money, so getting 'flagged' shouldn't matter. Artists/musicians will really only freak out if they see you're CLEARLY monetizing from their work and they're not getting a cut. So unless someone paid you, you're advertising, or you're making BANK off their music and they're not getting any of it, you should be fine.

Hi Rachel! I just watched your video about you leaving your home in Plymouth to start your journey elsewhere. I wanted to ask you how you felt about living in a space like that by yourself?? I’m also about to move to a new space, bigger than my older one and although I’m very fortunate to be able to do so part of me is kind of scared to take up so much space by myself. Do you have any tips??

I've never had roommates so living alone was all I knew. But I loved it! I also live a pretty extroverted life, so it's very nice to have a safe, quiet place to recharge. You'll love it! Host friends often, have your space be the hub for all hangouts. That really helps make your space feel lived in outside of yourself.

It is! More wavey than curly, although I do get some ringlets sometimes! No clue on perming but also wouldn't ever do it. Cutting, I've been snipping at my own hair the past year so I'm also no help there. Thankfully my hair texture gives me lots of room for uneven cuts hahaha

I know the answer is so simple, but disconnecting. The only thing that kills our individuality and creativity the most are distractions! Distractions from our phones, from feeling less than, from comparing, from being too inspired. We don't (AT ALL HONESTLY) give ourselves the room to actually THINK anymore!

Congrats on the first step that many find so hard! And that's getting your hands dirty into a project 🙂 I don't know if blogging is the right platform anymore, but definitely honing in on some keywords. I would do a full day's research into how to market your blog via SEO and also getting involved with some of your favorite bloggers in the field by engaging with them! Maybe start collaborating. But also have fun with it! It's a very saturated space and I really don't know how I would approach it now. Might not even do a blog at this point haha, but that's me personally since I don't consume them!

I understand a lot of your content is just you living your life but how we do that is so often influenced by what we consume (social media, friends, family, etc) so how does your original or unique content come to fruition? How does one sow the seed? / How do you conceptualise it? And how does it come to realisation?

Hi Katieeee! Yesss I mean, I know the world I live in is V instagram girls, so I do look for other industries for inspiration. IDK like surf culture and skate videos are really inspiring. Art, film making, I just like seeing the vibes of others and seeing how I can implement it. But honestly, I'm just kinda doing my own thing and I'll throw a tripod on a camera. It really has nothing to do with trying to force an aesthetic or a vibe, that's all in the territory of the atmosphere I've created for myself. Lately I'm super into space age 70s modernism and I know it's not like directly into making videos or photos, but I think creating the world makes it much easier to document it that feels like a vibe. Does that make sense? I am so bad at articulating my process because it's actually...

I'm totally fine with the brand! I worked in-house for them for a little. Look, I think we're living in such a black and white world that if one person makes a bad judgement call, doesn't make the company inherently bad. Maybe it was petty for me to bring it up again, but it was the only tangible scenario to describe feeling kicked down from numerous of content that felt... a little too close to mine. That was just one of the bigger cases to illustrate. They're wonderful, love their products genuinely, the people, the ethos, and what they stand for.

if it makes you feel better, you are not the only lost one. it literally feels like this whole generation is lost. So, I hope that makes you feel less alone in a seemingly daunting position. It's not, life moves on and it'll find it's way. I got lucky, and my story is so hard to share because it was 8 years ago. 2011 was VERY different because it was before instagram. But I had the blog and people noticed my creative work and someone took a chance on me. I was lucky. But I put myself out there and I don't know if that works right, but it's worth a shot right? I wish I had better answers... but you will find it! I promise! You just neeed to TRUST the process. You can not control everything. And you don't need solid answers to take steps forward. TRUST ME...

Having fun with fashion has always been the way that I express my creativity and is a huge part of my identity. Have you ever been in a situation like this? If so how did you deal with it? And do you have any suggestions as to how I can balance being professional but also funky fresh? Love you xoxo

I don't know! I actually love the business look. I live in blazers and I guess my answer would be to wear something cute and funky printed underneath professional clothing. Or playing with fun dress silhouettes but in neutral colors. But that's what creativity is! Solving problems and coming up with solutions. Get creative! 🙂 It's really hard for me to just blanket statement a scenario and culture. You can judge and you know your limits, just slightly push and elevate them 😀

Shoot first, review later. And have the documentation be a part of the experience, but I get it, it can be annoying sometimes so feeling out the moment is key. I'm bad that sometimes I catch myself having an idea or seeing something I want to capture mid-conversation. I'm trying to not do that. But I never spend the time looking at my phone. How have you balanced doing your own thing -- without compromise -- while staying connected to your family? Have you ever felt guilty / like you need to sacrifice anything for this purpose?

It's been a long while since I've flown the nest... 8 years now. So no, hahaha, I don't feel that from my parents anymore because all a parent worries about is you being self-sufficient. They stopped getting on my case once they realized I was fine on my own - although they still call me with a fear that one day I'll be like MOM I NEED TO MOVE HOME. That hasn't happened yet. And I'm really close to my family! Never felt the need to pick one over another and I hope you don't either!

i honestly need to make a video about this because i've had my blog for 12 years + , during college, so i was very lucky that I didn't have to think about what i wanted to do. i just kind of fell into a lot of it. like having david discover me from my blog and hire me as a design assistant. don't let the world of social media fool you! there's a lot of work that goes into this and it's not all free. you can be free even while you're wrapped up in school. it's a state of mind. not a state of being.

i think the only thing is to appreciate what you have right now than to anticipate what will/could happen. it's inevitable, and 21 is SO SO young. Omg I'm 29 girl. And I think i spent 27-29 dreading my 30s and because of it, don't even remember or can account what i did those years. don't do that. enjoy your time while it's still there.

hi Rachel! been wanting to shoot film for a while but not quite sure where to start, it can be a bit overwhelming when researching on the interwebs? I had an old camera from my mom but the shutter is broken and I found out it would be more expensive to fix than to just buy a nice used one that works 🙂 so--back to square one! would you recommend going with a point and shoot? or a nicer SLR with a lens? just curious what kind of film camera you use and what you would recommend to someone who wants to get into shooting 35mm 🙂 thanks!!

i would just get a point and shoot, that's what I used. as far as learning how to use an SLR, i would practice on a digital one first so you can see in live time what aperture and f-stop does to photos, and then take that knowledge to film once you feel more secure!

Something that's helped me is having a savings account and knowing how much I need a month to survive. I kind of gauge my spending based off of what I have, what I'm about to earn (or lack there of), and spend frugally accordingly, and splurge when I can!

Hiii Brianna ~ thank you! Haha the thing is with these programs is that you'll never find a recipe for how someone makes something. The way I've always learned how to use programs like FCPx or Photoshop is literally google. I know you googled it, but I would stem it more from your own ideas and urges. It makes for better work too. Such as, instead of googling "how to make a mood board video" google "how to layer image over video in fcpx". You'll find things like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4vPlm39irM And this is ultimately how I learn how to make cool effects. I probably google 3-6 tutorials each video. Gotta put in the work and curiosity and learn it for yourself.

On your Vlogmas Day 8 video you mentioned that photography isn't a skill you're great at but that you're good at visuals (PS you ARE an amazing photographer). But I feel the same way in that I'm not a traditionally trained photographer or designer, but I know I can produce attractive/effective content. I recently graduated from college and am pursuing a career in fashion -- how can I use this asset to my advantage? If you have any advice on how to brand "being good at visuals" in a professional tone, I would love to hear it. Cheers, Hannah

Hi Hannah ~ Thank you so much for the sweet words. I guess to give a quickie answer (because I really don't want this to open up to an intense advice column lol), you say that about my work only because you see it, you've seen the mood and curation I've captured through the photos or video I've been a part of. The only way to really start the branding of your own work is to keep making stuff, publish it, and keep your work cohesive but experimental. No matter what, if you're making things purely from your soul, it will look cohesive. It only strays away when you're trying too hard to emulate a look or other work. Hope that helps! TL;DR: put work out, people will see, that's it. Rachel

Hi love, yes babe, I am here. I am present. I am seen for you to feel seen. I feel more passionate than ever! But I definitely had a lump of time that I wasn't. Sometimes, it's okay to let your mind and soul go through those shifts. What's helping me right now is getting my life reorganized and once that ball gets going it's hard to stop. I'm resetting and whilst I'm doing so, I'm starting to write down all my goals, big or small. And after braindumping, I take a look at the list and think how can I make them into smaller, bite sized goals. Having daily, hourly, micro accomplishments (even if it's something as small as crossing off a task to research something for 30 minutes) helps keep me motivated in daunting goals. Hope that helps bb xx

I would definitely love to give NY or Paris a go. LA is a miserable paradise. It's hard to adjust to the driving (although I'm used to it) and the sparseness of the city. Find close people. The diamonds you uncover here are worth more than the many rubies and emeralds in other cities.

Aw, I wanna give you a hug. You have so much love to give, so give it to yourself a little. Take a break from IG for a while, unless you need to work on it, but even so, find your boundaries. Know your limits. The love of admiration can go into the act of comparison. It's okay that you watch people that help you get into new things! We're all a combined energy of what we surround ourselves with. What I do when I start getting to that point is putting up blinders. "What does Rachel want to do today" "What do I realllllly like, like REALLLLY like. Let me sit on that for a while without trying to take notes from other people". Being honest with yourself. Like really, let yourself. Figure your life story, what makes you tick and why you are latching on, maybe there's something/someone/moment...

Allowing trust and giving love is not easy. It's a practice that gets more natural the more you apply it. One of the ways I like to remind myself how much I appreciate myself, is taking the time to eat well, cook for myself, work out, treat myself, indulge in my wants. In the process, I've started to get to know myself and the things I value. Also I love being around reciprocating energy and loving/appreciating others. It's a really big question to ask, hard to tackle through these Q&As, maybe a video to tackle down the line. In short, take care of yourself right now. A physical action of love towards yourself will emotionally manifest before you can take another step. Just trying to give you a small and doable action for now. You'll see the difference. I promise.

It's like managing a bunch of external ideas and trying to help them funnel it into one vision. Is the paraphrased version. I don't know, I'm just good at what I do and I'm super opinionated. People pay me for my viewpoint, so there's no process. It's a "hey can you help me?" "yeah sure, I can do that for $$$$ a month" Not really professionalizing it, but hey, I'm a free thinker.

I mean, it's always a work in progress. Mindfulness is a practice, not really a state of being. Unless of course, you're super super enlightened, but even I am not close to that. I have my hiccups and guilt pleasures! Maybe if you're obsessing over calories, try looking at food groups and seeing what works for you? Doing a crazy diet like Whole 30 helped me see my relationship with food and what works for me and what doesn't. Like wine, it makes me feel awful, but yeah, I'll still mindfully have a glass every now and then, sometimes, lushfully. Health is a balance, not a chore. Don't deprive yourself, but don't give into yourself too. Enjoy and know your limits!

Just start filming. Then try editing it. There's no other way than to just do it. And until you just do it, you won't have an understanding of what/how you want to film for the next video. Your first try doesn't have to be published. Just spend one whole day filming and then edit what you have. I promise that experience will put an otherwise daunting idea into a tangible perspective. x

I think the art of juggling will always be relevant and the best way to go about it is to plan, plan, plan! The BuJo and Google Cal helps me so much. Ex: if I feel like I haven't seen a friend in a while, I will always text even if I'm too busy to see how they're doing. If I want to work on a special project, I break down the major key steps and find places in my cal to execute it. That way ideas and intentions aren't lingering around and you can start time-blocking your time spent. xx

With social media, I think it's been a lot easier to meet people. Move to a bustling neighborhood. Arts District is a good one because everyone is walking and it's very close there. But yeah, it can be hard, finding a community (even if it's at work ... where I met most of my core friends now), definitely helps in starting to expand your friendship circle! Best of luck here 🙂 You're gonna have an amazing time xx

Happy belated birthday twin! When did you become interested in fashion? Always, have always been interested in expressing myself with pretty things Youtube: 2014 Find my style: When I stopped caring what other people wanted to see and overthinking 'lewks'. Being a style: helps if you genuinely enjoy solving visual problems. most of the best stylists I know don't even have great style. they just wear jeans and a shirt.

Which is why it surprised me that you were an econ major because I thought you majored in something more artistic because of how creative your blog and youtube channel are. Did you wish you studied something else or are you glad you have an economics degree? Were you happy in college? The reason I am asking is because I am currently in college and was studying business, but I switched my major to Information Technology because I was so miserable at the business school. Hopefully, I'll enjoy tech more than business, but overall I aspire to be in a creative field. I just wanted to hear about your experience and any advice you could give me about college and your career. Love, Vi 🙂

TBH, I only went to school for my parents. I couldn't have cared less about school. Don't regret going nor not studying anything else. Creativity is hard to teach, the only way to nurture that is to find an outlet to express yourself to know what you are good at and enjoy doing. Figure that out and master it, then you're ready to figure your place out in the creative world. But stay in school! Have hobbies on the side. HOBBIES ARE SO IMPORTANT.

Thank you Sadie! I was born here 🙂 visiting Vietnam was a beautiful way that I was able to get in touch with my heritage, but my parents raised me very Vietnamese. So that always feels like home, even if I've been homogenized into the city of LA, a good bowl of pho and che for dessert makes me a happy girl.

No secret! Just soundcloud and Youtube. I'm lucky that I can tell when I like a song in 1 second so I'm able to scrub through a lot fast. I'll find a song I like (probably can't use) on Soundcloud and keep digging through playlists it's been on, or look at related tracks. I spend HOURS and HOURS. It's a labor of love and is definitely not easy hahah.

I'm curious what you did if you were in a situation like mine when you started blogging? Like how did you create good quality content by yourself? Or did you work with photographers? I have already invested so much time and energy (and money) towards my own domain and web design that it's impossible for me to pay for anything else at the moment. Do you think that I have to buy the right equipment and hire the right people to take quality photos? Was that something you struggled with? Thanks for the tremendous amounts of inspiration! You are the chicest of them all!

Yes of course, I started blogging 13 years ago, there was no money then hahaha. Do it for fun, yes it's a lot of work, but if you're tired of it already, then maybe it's not something that's truly passionate for your and the thing that is driving you to do it, might be the wrong reason. Also, I've almost always been a one girl team. With the help of a friend or annoyed boyfriend to take a photo. Best of luck! Just try to have fun with it. Don't over think it because no one wants to read a super calculated blog anyway! x

Hello fellow night owl! Wow that's actually a really good idea. I'll have to try that one of these days. Wes and I met through mutual friends and were distant friends for a few years before we started dating. In some way, we were lucky enough to skip the era of dating apps. But man, I have noooo idea! I'm so out of touch. It seems like my friends who are in their late 20s and single rn have stopped focusing on their singleness and have been making impressive, personal strides in their spirituality and career. The feeling of 'expiring' as a woman can be ever pressing, but I think can be conquered within. I really do personally believe that when someone is truly ready to meet someone (and not for the sake of companionship), the energy opens up and love finds its way. ALSO, men have their single-sniffers out....

I did!!! she has been amazing and honestly the best help I've had. we got along really well but when an offer for a full-time position fell into her lap, I encouraged her to take it because it would be an amazing experience for her to gain insight into molding her future freelance career. I would be interested in another assistant again, but man, the internet can be so cruel. Publishing a post asking for paid-help, then having comments not only invalidate me as a creative but also paint my character as entitled and unnecessary, fill me with enough doubt and negativity to outweigh the enthusiasm that found my inbox. Is making a person feel horrible about themselves a successful goal? Does that make you sleep at night? Honestly, I'm really fucking curious how people can be so spiteful while filling in the blanks of someone else's life. SORRY, end...

HI Li ~ aw thank you. I'm so happy you enjoy my work! I became a freelancer because I worked in the industry for a bit before I started YT full time. Working for myself can be challenging because you never know when the next project is coming in. Since I have a more 'personal' brand, I also have to be mindful of the projects I take on... and I say 'no' to a lot of projects and opportunities. But the other side of freelance, I do that still because I know I'm good at what I do, and I might not always have the avenue to push it myself on my own platform (YT, blog), but I can translate what I know for another brand. It's complicated. I'm always hustling... it ever stops. Sorry, it's a pretty vague answer for a vague question. I hope it gave a bit...

Mostly because I dislike writing and never know what to say. But then editing photos, making sure they're resized and decompressed, figuring if GIFs and stuff would look good, designing out the post... all takes time. Edit a video is even more work as you can imagine! I work alone... on top of keeping up with a heavy inbox flow and press events during the day, I get burnt by the time I'm on my computer :((((((((

I ran a Twitter poll based off this question, and the results skewed that way. So yeah, probably. Oh no, that's never a good feeling. Of course it happens to me; I think everyone feels a sense of self-doubt every once in a while. Everytime I'm in that rut, I sort of remind myself that I'm my own human and there's no one else like me. We are all our own individual and I disconnect and rediscover what makes me happy 💃🏻💃🏻

I would try to steer away from things that are curated (clothing stores, websites, etc) and go to a thrift store and pull things that catch your eyes, then curate those pieces from there. But you know, it's hard. I'm still exploring what I like and it forever changes. I don't think I will ever have a definitive grasp on what my personal style is, and that's okay. That's just my style 😉

I haven't! So hard to answer that because I think it's completely personal and up to whatever you want? I need physical intimacy and personally, don't think I could open up if the variables weren't in that favor. Now, if Weston suddenly had to move, I truly have no idea how that will pan out and would be unfair of me to make some declaration on that - love is too finicky and moody for me. It's why I don't have tattoos haha

Paris is a lovely city to be alone in. There's strangely no pressure or looks for being at a cafe alone. Go to any outdoor boulangeries that you'll find on any given corner, order your fave day drink, and do exactly what you envision. Enjoy and live in the moment! x

HI CAMRY ~ 1. Why wouldn't your *unique* perspective be worth sharing?? or even better, worth documenting for yourself? 2. who the fuck cares, if they do, that's awesome! don't hold yourself to that expectation. creation should be for the creator and the creator only. the audience is a pleasant byproduct. 3. IDK, what is something you haven't seen that you want to see? it sounds like you have a unique story to tell and a way you seem you want to share it. So go for it! There's nothing that's majorly investing about starting a blog, which is why they're so awesome to make 🙂 GOOD LUCK! We'll be looking out x

I know it sounds counter intuitive, but being independent in a relationship, I think, is key. Wes and I really look to each other as partners in life and are each other's best friends! Before living together, we still spent at least 2-3 nights together, but now we're together, we hang out a lot more and do things together a lot more, which is really really nice. But we're still trying to find a balance because we're almost too close haha.

Hi Rachel, Love your eye for the creative. Anyway, I wanted to ask how you take care of your hair after a workout. I've recently picked up running again and my biggest question is how I can take care of my hair. Naturally, my hair gets a little sweaty after a run, but I don't feel comfortable having to wash it with shampoo everyday because I know that it'll dry my hair out. However, I also don't want to keep my hair sweaty because I know that it's just as bad as over-shampooing. Is there a happy medium that you would recommend? Or, is it acceptable to shampoo and condition my hair everyday due to the sweat? Thank you and much love, Shivani

I've read once that BO doesn't happen because of sweat, but because our armpits are dark and that's how we smell. I know it's gross, but I air out my head and go about my day after without shampooing for the same reasons you're concerned about. I don't find my hair getting oily after, just wet, so that's how I deal with it. And the day I can't stand how oily my hair is, I wear it in a tight pony all day as an attempt to further train my hair to not produce as much oil. I hope that helps? x

Hi Shay! I'm so sorry you are going through this. Infidelity is hard, and every case and relationship is different to gauge how things should move forward. But regardless, should you guys decide to work on this, it is his humble responsibility to give you the tools that you can trust him again and feel secure in your relationship. It's also very important to remember that your value as an individual isn't determined by someone else's actions. You are your own unique woman and so special beyond comparison that is not dependent on qualities any girl has or lack. As difficult as it is, you will only start healing when you can make a concentrated effort to focus on yourself rather than others. I hope that helps and best of your healing journey x

Hi Rachel 🙂 I am going on a trip with my friends in about a week, and will have to rot in a 20hour flight there and back. I however have a very important event coming up literally a day after my arrival and I am worried that my skin will shrivel up like a raisin and break out due to the long flight (my skin breaks out especially when dry during flights). Do you have any tips or advice? Is there anything specific you do in flights to keep moisturised and break out-free?

how fun! girl you gotta pack on lots of face masks, and don't be afraid to use more than one during that long ass flight. i'd also carry a ziplock with soaked cotton pads of your favorite toner to keep balancing your skin's PH then slapping on some oil or a face mask to keep your skin hydrated. also, drink a LOT a lot of water and avoid the teas and coffee x

You constantly inspire me to do things outside of my comfort zone, especially in what I wear. Watching your videos also changed my perspective on love and how I should carry myself. Before I thought I would never want to fall in love, but seeing Weston and you together makes my heart melt every time. Anyways, I hope you have a wonderful rest of 2018 because you most definitely deserve it. I hope one day I can meet up and just say hello. Bye bye~

oh yeah, my question! how do you find the happy medium between capturing a moment through a camera and enjoying the moment for what it is, without being behind a lens?
Admin Reply by: Rachel
omg 😭😭😭😭😭 I forgot that I had written that for you and this beautiful note serves more than a thank you. i am so touched by your message. thank you for writing to me. There's really no medium for me, I genuinely enjoy taking photos and sometimes it's the experience of the connection I'm having with the subject and my action of capturing how I feel that makes photography so fun. But also, resist the urge to review photos right after you take it. Capture, put your device down, and continue on with your life. Alsoooo I never look back and wish I took less photos ❤️❤️

Love that you're thinking about this at such a young age! My first reason is that it's never as well made as designer pieces and that if I had $100 to spend on clothes a season, I would rather put that money towards something that will hold its value to resell and also withstand the test of wear. But yeah, you vote with your dollars and it's hard to support fast fashion brands that are usually trend driven and go out of style. Always nice to explain where you come from without making people feel like they're being shamed for their choices. No one is a perfect consumer and you happen to wear lots of second-hand as well 🙂

Hahah, I honestly haven't really thought about my wedding dress. I personally would probably go with something vintage and repurpose/refit to give it a second life. Makes me sad that such beautiful dresses are made only to see the light of day once. Have an amazzzzzzing wedding and time shopping for it!! 👰🏻🤵🏻 Oh also, sometimes Yoox has some amazing finds.

Usually when I get burned out, I take a step back and try to figure why I'm burned out to begin with... usually I'm tired of looking at the same thing, listening to myself when I edit, etc... and I truly just disconnect and live life until my mind is clear again and I can find what's new to inspire me. Ps, thank you for the kindest words so much thank you

That's so sweet of you Sofia! Thank you 🙂 🙂 I really need to make an LA guide one of these days, but any time I travel anywhere, I always try to connect with someone through a friend or even through IG because the eye of a local is incomparable to what you discover on your own. Shops, I love perusing Melrose Place and a few vintage shops on Melrose like Wasteland. Hope that helps and enjoy your time here! xx

I don't really have favorite brands, I buy a lot of vintage or from the gold wholesale market. But I do love Young Frankk - my favorite gold hoops! And, the hair was a great time in my life, but I don't really miss it. It ended up being too hard to maintain and more people seem to be rocking that hair now which naturally turns me off from it.

That's so inspiring to hear. Your content looks beautiful - I can't wait to watch the video. My first job was at Paige as a menswear designer and I got it through my friend who was the creative director for the men's department. We met through my blog actually, so putting your work out in the world can definitely open you up to different opportunities! But I was there, then I moved to ShoeDazzle as a content producer (also got this position because they were a fan of my blog), then I started the YT channel and left to do it full time 🙂 That was about 3 years all together!

Love your ambition!! To answer your question, I think I find solace in knowing I'm doing the best I can with what I have. Even 'thriving' creatives you see online have so many goals they're constantly chasing and it's a matter of finding solutions to battle these ideas into execution. The best advice for someone who is finding their tracking again is to be okay with being lost and let that transport you to where you need to me. I fully believe that manifestation and the universe guides you to where you want to be in life if you are putting in the energy and work to see your goals ✨⚡✨

Look away from a formula and what others are doing and follow the instinct that you're attracted to. It's hard though, I often need to disconnect because we can be 'too' inspired by the our apps. I need time away to process what I like and don't like in my daily living as I purge and think 🕊️

I'm just passionate about creating .... i think it translate to everything else. Sorry if that was a broad answer, it's far too much to really type out into something tangible!

IDK, I've met a lot of people through IG and blogging, but I've also been doing this for so long that it's hard to have that fresh perspective on what it was like before. Honestly, going to events helps a lot. But I agree, find friends with the same vibe on IG! Follow each other, meet up, talk about things. Everyone is craving openness the same as you are but everyone is too afraid to be the first one to do it - be the first one to approach.

I can't say I would have the smarter decision for this, I'd move somewhere nicer (but I also work from home and it's v important to me to splurge on something that feels comfortable for me and to work from). I also find that it'll inspire and push me more to work harder to deserve what I decided to splurge on.

I feel as though a lot of influencers don't have much sensitivity to conscious efforts and footprint, so... it's not my battle haha. But yeah, you're right, it's really hard to get away from it. I think it's really important to be okay knowing you won't be a perfect conscious consumer, but you can be a smart one. Often times we feel like if we're going to label our choices, we have to follow-through perfectly, and I don't see that as fair. We can make incremental decisions that turn into habits rather than giving up on an idea that seems too hard to manage.

It's unfortunate that these things keep happening. But also knowing that these teams are huge and ginormous - I have a great relationship with the PR team in NY... that's like 5 people out of probably 100+ in just PR. I always leave room for error with these companies because sometimes it is the mistake of just one person. Not an excuse, but I've made mistakes too in huge corporate settings, and it's hard to finesse each decision. I do know they are constantly hiring extra talent to oversee mistakes and hopefully prevent more like these.

I've seen some pretty rad things on Wix. What I did with my site was make a wireframe of how I wanted the site to feel and navigate (without any design implemented, purely a blueprint) and worked around that. I worked with a developer because I didn't have the time to figure it all out on my own, but I used to code my own sites! It really helps to design it out first and then put it together and knowing what freedom you need and where. I hope that helps? x

Hi sweetie, aw you're so sweet. Thank you and thanks for asking this question that I think it's a difficult road to navigate on our own. The best thing for security in a relationship is actually the person you're in a relationship giving it to you. You should be confident and your own person beforehand, but if your partner isn't making you feel secure and open, of course it'll leave room to second guess yourself. Often in relationships, my best advice is to be 100% open with the person and leave no rooms for secrets. If you are open, it usually fosters room and the expectancy for the other to be open as well. I hope that helps 🍌

Hi Kayley! I might have answered this already when I saw you, but I'll answer again so others can see! I got into it I think because I wear so many hats doing what I do: photography, PR, marketing, content creation, modeling, styling, strategize. AD is mostly managing people to execute a vision you have, and should you know all the puzzle pieces and how they work, it's easier to create a well-oiled machine from it. If you're freelancing, learn, learn, learn! Learn from everyone, every project, and ask lots of questions.

Honestly, no - unless it's a skill you're looking to learn. Like you said, there's so much you can learn without a college degree, that how does one know what they REALLY like and want to expand on until they see what's out there. School can be so confined to a structure that doesn't allow much opportunity to explore a current state of the world. IMHO 😅

Honestly I don't have the answers to everything, I kinda am an opportunist and I see room for improvement and I know how to make it happen. I think companies value my point of view and expertise and thats how I get hired for what I do. a lot of it comes from doing a ton of research and having a really keen finger on the pulse of everything thats happening!

We live in an ever-changing environment with social media and stuff, its really hard to put definitive answers on anything. hi! I made mine off of Wordpress but I used a developer for it. I hear Cargo and Wix are both really good options, you just have to know how to code a little bit and think outside of the box that they put you in, as the beginning consumer. You can definitely create a quite advanced site on those platforms! & I studied economics but I only went to school because I was forced to. xx

Only gopro can go underwater which canon cant but on the other hand canon is amazing to! I really cant decide so I wanted to know your opinion 🙂

i say canon g7x all the way. the gopro is not comparable to sound quality which is so important to good video making. like, the canon is so good, i rarely use my DSLR to film. the gopro wouldn't be able to replace that. but i want one too, it's definitely a purchase to get once you expand more. also, i don't recommend it completely.... but i've used my phone to film underwater (totally was okay in a pool setting, home buttton stopped working in the ocean lulzz)

aw so sorry to hear! well, i'm no expert in this stuff so take anything i say with a grain of salt and apply only what resonates with you. 1. let yourself feel everything you want to feel and know it will pass 2. you probably lost yourself for a while in this relationship, and remember that relationships should not be two-half people coming in to make a whole... rather, it should be two whole people coming together to enhance each other. find the half you've been missing and try to be a whole human. you will never need someone to complete you 3. reach out to friends, family, coworkers, yoga mat neighbor, and get your mind off it. remember what it's like to have a healthy companionship hope that helps and hope you find a light at the end of your tunnel xx

i say find a backbone of what you people to associate you with: food, culture, fashion, mood, etc., and write it all down. then sort of branch off that and start creating visuals around it. you'll start to see your on-screen-self form and that is a good jumping off point for the stories and visuals you want to share!

hiii thank you! jumping around is totally okay. what if you found some way to combine the two? i'm sure there's some strange mix you can have a niche in that satisfies both... isn't that how the best styles are made? eg: alexander wang with sport luxe (was so not a thing 10 years ago!), or daisydaisy with country goth? the strangest collabs make the best stories!

Admin Reply by: Rachel
aw thank you for the sweet words yasmin x to make you feel better, i have an identity crisis all the time. what really helps me is really focusing - i'll make visual boards of things i like and see how it all fits, then i put together all my stuff/photos/things in my life and see how it matches and start curating from there. your style is yours, it's a matter of making it make sense to someone who isn't in your head. try looking up some podcasts (i don't know any off the top of my head) about branding!

hm, I say go at it at a passionate, leisurely pace to get your footing and voice while still maintaining an income on the side. once you start feeling confident, try treating it as a business and partner with brand that you see a right fit that you want to create content (or whatever else ideas you have!) for. it can be a slow burn, but I definitely think it's not something to jump into head first to make money.

hiii, you can always check https://www.youtube.com/music_policies and search songs you plan on using. two other tests I do is seeing if the song is shazamable or i can look up the song on youtube, and if it's copywritten it'll show the song information in the official description. as far as usage, i don't know.... i gamble it and just use it. hope that helps!

go through your whole closet and clean out everything you don't relate to anymore (expect to get rid of a lot of items), then slowly and smartly build from there

Totally hahha, I think it's natural to have the curiosity to check in on someone. But I think it all depends on what your relationship with the person was and I think if there's a lingering wonder of how healthy these habits are, then it's probably leaning towards one end of that question.

i feel like if you're outgrowing your friends, it usually also comes with having new things that you're interested in. sometimes it helps to go to gatherings (like yoga class, or a fashion event, or whatever) that would have people with common interests and start introducing yourself! transitions will happen naturally whether your new / old friends are in your life.

Yes! You have to pack some home amenities, like a little travel candle, maybe some photos of loved ones. It always helps to sprawl out at the hotel or airbnb to feel like you're living. Traveling alone can feel like a blur but remember that it'll go by sooner than you know it, so try to admire the luxury you were given to travel 🙂 also, vietnam is SO beautiful, you will love it. thank you!! I'm pretty open about everything - I don't have much to hide nor do I embarrass easily, but where I have my boundaries are sharing the lives of the people around me. I respect the privacy of my surroundings and don't share what's not mine. It only gets 'tricky' then because my life can look so one-sided 😉

Ok, this was not a question so far but....how do you see the big picture when it feels like your goals are far (and I mean far!) from reach?
Admin Reply by: Rachel
thank you lil sis for all the kind wordzzzzz. man sometimes it's really hard to look that far, esp with how fast the world changes. (like who knew i'd be here 10 years ago??????), i tend to look at medium picture and play with immediate, tangible things. they eventually build into something formative.

Lots of self-reflection. 2010's has been narcissism-inducing fuel. Maybe if we ask more questions, remain curious, stay humble through actions, realize we don't actually know it all, and also weigh the value in the things that motivate us, we could open room in our lives to appreciate each other more.

Give myself a realllly good spa day. Then I just remind myself that I am fucking awesome and there's only one of me and I have amazing people in my life and that would only be the case if I was the best person I can be for myself and everyone else *run-on sentence*

It actually makes me more inspired to NOT make what everyone else is making. It's actually easier to narrow down what you don't want to do.

Laziness more than fear. I overcome fear when I remind myself that the reward on the other side weighs more than the fear to get there, IE: an apartment without spiders if I can just get over the fact that I am face-to-face with a spider and all I need to do... is to get the damn thing inside of the cup... walk outside... without it jumping on me... to release it.

It helps being in a city with a thriving community of the industry you see yourself in. One friend will lead to another, and then you'll always yourself with something to do. Be nice to everyone.

Honestly, I have less of an idea now than when I first started. But thank you! I am just making things that I like right now when I find it therapeutic.

I'm doing some consulting jobs, but still mostly YouTube/influencer stuff. I'm lucky that I have one great client (Adobe) that keeps me afloat while I have my existential crisis.

I swear by the 10 step skincare girl. But also, age. Not being in your late teens and early twenties does something GREAT to your skin, then something awful, so important to use preventative skincare early on! x

You know, I've been wanting to do a brand for a REALLY long time. I happen to sit on a lot of my ideas and projects until one day it starts to unfold. There's too much of everything: new brands, new bloggers, new shops, new consumeristic means, and right now, I am enjoying creating my own silence and hoping to find a way to channel my creativity in a way that contributes to the conversation.

As hard as it can be to make beautiful content on your own, the internet has way too much noise with not enough substance. I always enjoy consuming things from artists who make things for themselves than to please the public x

Get off the internet and do something active/in nature. WWW can be such an overwhelming space with too much inspiration or means to compare yourself to others. Best to visit the things that you enjoy with fresh eyes.
